The SCORPION (Scorpius)
The star Antares is the jewel of the Scorpion.  Extremely large (see FYI), it has an obvious red color and predominates the southern sky.  Some cultures think of it as the fishhook in the sky. Find Antares, then look for a circlet of stars to its right (the upper and lower claws).  Now trace downward from Antares for the body, tail, and finally the stinger.  Often the tail may be below the horizon.
